Russia is continuing to explore the possibility of exporting pipeline gas to China via landlocked Mongolia – an ambition that remains remote for now but one the Kremlin is keen to press as it would establish stronger economic ties in Asia.

In a meeting with Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin directed the executive to look into exporting gas  from the Yamal Peninsula to China via Mongolia.
