Global gas demand is increasing mainly because of the emergence of China as a giant consumer of the fuel, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its World Energy Outlook 2018 report, published on Tuesday.
This means fears of a glut in gas supplies are unfounded, the agency said in a note.
Under the IEA’s ‘New Policies’ scenario, global gas demand will hit 5.35 trillion cubic metres per year in 2040 – 42.5% higher than in 2017, when demand was 3.75 tcm/y.
