Brazil’s LNG demand fell by nearly 17% in H1 2018 compared with the same period last year, according to customs data published by the country’s Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services. This follows a 73% drop for the same period a year earlier.
This is primarily because of increased hydroelectricity production, which has reduced gas-to-power demand. Average hydroelectric generation has increased from 45.8 GW in H1 2017 to 50.8 GW in H1 2018,
