Egypt is slowly opening up its southern regions to oil and gas exploration, launching its second international bid round of the year on Sunday.

The Ganoub el Wadi Holding Company for Petroleum (Ganope) is offering 10 blocks in the south and east of the country, with five in the Gulf of Suez and five in the southern and central Western Desert.

The blocks cover a total of 8.3 million hectares, with only the Gulf of Suez areas having seen any prior exploration.
