Nuclear power is set to take a bigger role in the electricity mix of the Middle East and North Africa from 2020 following the long-awaited startup of the 5.6 GW Barakah plant in the United Arab Emirates. The case for nuclear is being built by growing power demand in the MENA countries coupled with a drive for cleaner electricity and the desire to save oil products for more financially lucrative outlets.
