Power prices in Germany came under pressure in May from lower prices for fuels and EU carbon allowances. Both the front-month and year-ahead baseload power contracts traded lower on average last month compared with April. Front-month prices were also influenced by weather patterns. Wind power accounted for around 21% of Germany’s electricity mix in May 2019, 3 percentage points higher than in May 2018, according to Fraunhofer data.
