United States gas consumption increased by 10% year-on-year in 2018, hitting a record 2.3 billion cubic metres per day, according to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA’s) latest Natural Gas Monthly. The power sector consumed 820 million cubic metres per day (MMcm/d) last year, accounting for 35% of total US consumption, as new gas-fired capacity additions continued to displace coal-fired power plants.
