Algeria is likely to miss its target for renewables to provide 4.5 GW of its power by 2020 despite huge potential for solar and wind generation across the country. Algeria plans to achieve 22 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with solar PV accounting for around 61% and wind for 22%. The country’s current capacity (excluding hydropower) consists only of pilot schemes developed by public companies and amounting to 663 MW – just 3.5% of the country’s installed generation capacity of around 19 GW....
