The EU has proposed an ambitious target of hitting net-zero emissions by 2050. The European Commission announced the policy ahead of the COP24 climate meeting, held in Poland in early December. Following the meeting, EU countries agreed to stricter emissions limits for cars and vans. Tougher targets and new measures are needed to bring global emissions down to the level required to keep global warming to 1.5C. So too is evidence of the success of measures already being taken.
