Intersector competition for gas in Oman is set to intensify as the country expands its petrochemical production capacity.

In September, Oman’s Salalah Methanol Co. (SMC) announced financial closure on a 1,000-ton per day ammonia unit. The unit is expected to come online in 2020 and will be located next to SMC’s existing methanol plant near the southern city of Salalah. The company will use methane feedstock to produce both ammonia and methanol.
