The Shah Deniz project will not be penalised under US sanctions against Iran, even though Iran’s Naftiran Intertrade Co. (Nico) holds a 10% stake in the giant gas field, because Washington considers it vital to Europe’s energy security, an analyst at CMX Caspian and Gulf Consultants said on Wednesday.
