Tepco received ¥80.9 billion ($1.02 billion) from the government-backed Nuclear Damage Liability Facilitation Fund on Friday, the company said in a press release.
“This financial support was given in response to our fifth request made in order to cover the compensation payouts to be completed by the end of July, as the sum of the compensation received in accordance with the ‘Act on Contract for Indemnification of Nuclear Damage Compensation’ (¥120 billion) and the financial support provided by the Fund (¥928.8 billion) will not be sufficient for the total amount of payout,” Tepco said.
Tepco shareholders approved the nationalisation of the utility on Wednesday, in a move that will see the government pour in ¥1 trillion in return for a share in the company.
