“The energy issue has taken up most of our time and resources,” Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in his inaugural address to the nation in August. Since he was elected in May, Sharif has sought to reassure a restless population of his government’s resolve and determination to overcome Pakistan’s debilitating energy crisis. Such is the enormity of the problem that many rate it as a bigger – or at least an equal – challenge to terrorism in the country.
