Rosmorport plans to build LNG-fuelled icebreaker

Rosmorport plans to start building its first LNG-fuelled icebreaker in 2021.

Russian infrastructure developer Rosmorport, which is controlled by Russia’s Federal Maritime and River Transport Agency, plans to start building its first LNG-fuelled icebreaker in 2021.

It will also switch its fleet to alternative sources of energy following the introduction of new International Maritime Organization standards on the sulphur content of marine fuels in 2020, the state company’s chief executive, Andrei Lavrischev, has told reporters.

“Rosmorport is considering the possibility of building icebreakers that use LNG as the main fuel.
