An Italian court has heard that Eni and Shell were fully aware of corrupt payments to Nigerian officials that took place to secure the $1.3 billion OPL 245 offshore field in 2011, Reuters has reported.

Prosecutors allege approximately $1.1 billion was siphoned off to agents and middlemen for the deal, which is considered one of the largest corruption scandals in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
