Eni has announced it has struck oil 120 km off the coast of Angola in an area that had been deemed to be gas-prone.

The company has confirmed the discovery of 170-200 million barrels of light oil in the Afoxé exploration prospect in Block 15/06 in water depths of 780 metres.

Eni is the operator of the block with a 36.84% share and is developing it in a joint venture with Angola’s state petroleum company, Sonangol (which also has a 36.84% share), and SSI...
