Higher coal consumption in India and China is set to drive global carbon dioxide emissions to a record high this year, according to new research released on Wednesday from nearly 80 scientists around the world.

Fossil CO2 emissions are forecast to rise by 2.7% year on year in 2018, accelerating from average annual growth of 1.5% between 2006-2017, the Global Carbon Project said in its annual Carbon Budget.
