The African Development Bank (AfDB) will lend Senegal XAF 33 billion ($57 million) to convert a heavy fuel oil power plant to run on gas, Agence de presse sénégalaise has reported.
The 120 MW Malicounda power station, in the west of Senegal, will use combined-cycle technology, which will allow it to burn gas as well as diesel.
The loan fits with the Senegalese government’s plans to convert its diesel-fired power plants to run on gas by 2025.
