Italian transmission system operator Snam is set to build its first biomethane plant in Caltanissetta in Sicily.

Snam subsidiary Snam4Mobility paid €2 million ($2.3 billion) to acquire Enersi Sicilia, which holds a permit to develop such a facility.

The plant will convert 36,000 tons of urban waste per year.

Snam4Mobility is developing refuelling infrastructure for CNG- and LNG-powered vehicles.
