Australia’s LNG producers should be allowed to block the public release of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data because such disclosures could put them at a competitive disadvantage, the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) has argued in a recent submission to Australia’s Climate Change Authority.

Existing laws for reporting GHG emissions stipulate companies can only apply to withhold data from publication if it reveals a trade secret or other matter that could harm a project’s commercial value.
