France’s Total and Japanese companies Mitsui and Tokyo Gas have all signed heads of agreements to each buy 800,000 tpa of LNG from Sempra Energy’s Energía Costa Azul LNG project in the Mexican state of Baja California, Sempra said on Wednesday.

The volume represents the full export capacity of Costa Azul’s first phase, which comprises a single 2.4 mtpa train.

Sempra is targeting an FID on the project in late 2019, with first LNG in 2023.
