Protests took place in Taiwan over the weekend over air pollution and the location of the country’s proposed new LNG terminal, according to Focus Taiwan.
The site, which is on the Taoyuan coast, could affect coral reefs that are home to an endemic species of crustose coralline algae.
The project passed an environmental impact assessment in October in which only seven of the 18 committee members cast votes. Independent members of the committee staged a walkout, complaining of government interference in the process.
