Japan’s LNG imports increased by 8% year on year in September as the country sought to build its stocks before the peak winter heating season. High temperatures over the summer boosted air conditioning use and increased LNG demand as a result. This has left many storage sites with relatively low stocks, and companies are scrambling to rebuild stored volumes before the heating season begins.
