The EU’s gas consumption fell by 8% year on year in Q2 2018, driven by mild weather and lower gas use in the power sector, the European Commission said in its quarterly gas report on Thursday.
This was the sharpest decline in four years and came after two years of almost continuous growth, the commission noted.
Consumption for the quarter amounted to 86 billion cubic metres. Gas use was down by 11% in France and 17% in Germany.
