Taiwan may halt coal plant reopening if LNG terminal passes test

The government of Taiwan will shelve the reopening of the Shenao coal-fired power plant if an LNG terminal in the city of Taoyuan passes an environmental assessment, Taiwan News reported William Lai, the country’s premier, as saying on Friday.

The assessment has delayed the terminal’s construction, but the country is in need of additional import capacity as its demand for gas is growing.
