Verbundnetz Gas discusses Katharina UGS expansion project with Gazprom

Ulf Heitmüller, chief executive of German storage operator Verbundnetz Gas, met his Gazprom counterpart Alexei Miller on Thursday to discuss progress on the expansion of Germany’s Katharina underground storage facility.

The facility currently has six caverns and a working gas volume of about 310 million cubic metres (MMcm). The expansion project envisages the construction of a seventh cavern that would raise the facility’s working gas volume to 350 MMcm, and is expected to be completed for winter 2019-2020.
