Russia’s pipeline gas exports will not be competing against the country’s LNG on world markets, Interfax reported Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin as saying on Tuesday.

“Pipeline will hold its own regardless,” he said. Sorokin added that Russian LNG cargoes are competing with those from other producers.

Gazprom wrote to Russia’s Energy Ministry in April with a request for measures to be taken to avoid competition between the country’s pipeline gas exports and its LNG on world markets. The Energy Ministry supported the proposal.
