China’s apparent gas consumption surged by 21.6% year on year in August, to 23.2 billion cubic metres, the National Development and Reform Commission said on Friday.

The country’s gas output rose by 9.6%, to 12.8 bcm, while imports were up by 38.9%, to 10.7 bcm.

Consumption during the first eight months of 2018 increased by 18.2%, to 180.4 bcm, while production climbed by just 6.0%, to 103.6 bcm. Imports were up by 38.6% over the period, to 78.9 bcm.
