New satellite images suggest coal plants in China that the central government ordered to be suspended or cancelled are still being built, United States-based research group CoalSwarm said in a recent report.

The organisation checked every plant that had been ordered to slow or postpone construction and found several locations where development had advanced despite the government directive.

The planned coal power stations have a total capacity of 259 GW, which is nearly as big as the entire US coal fleet.
