Imports to meet 40% of Chinese gas demand by 2030

China will use 520 billion cubic metres of gas per year by 2030, with imports set to meet 40% of consumption, Zou Caineng, vice president of PetroChina’s Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development, said at the Gastech conference in Barcelona on Monday.

Zou said China is now looking for “alternative” gas suppliers and wants to boost its own gas production in response to the trade war with the United States.
