China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) has shut down oil and gas production in the eastern waters of the South China Sea and evacuated more than 3,300 offshore workers as of Tuesday as two typhoons approach China, CNOOC said on Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Barijat landed in China on Thursday and will be followed by the much bigger Super Typhoon Mangkhut early next week.
