Novatek and Rosatomflot have signed a letter of intent to jointly develop a fleet of LNG-powered icebreakers.

Novatek and Rosatomflot signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to jointly develop a fleet of LNG-powered icebreakers, the Russian gas producer’s commercial director, Lev Feodosyev, said at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

“We’re beginning to build icebreakers that run on LNG, which will be able to operate in the area of the Kara Sea, in port infrastructure and in the channel of Sabetta Port with less autonomy compared to nuclear icebreakers,” he said.
