Two Turkish energy companies have received a licence to explore for oil and gas across 70,000 hectares in Turkey’s Diyarbakir province, Azerbaijan’s Trend news agency reported on Thursday, quoting the Turkish energy ministry.

Çalık Petrol Arama Üretim and Traoil Dogal Enerji Kaynaklari Arastirma applied for a permit under a law passed in 2014 that allows for exploration in forests and national parks.

Since then, a total of 56 wells have been drilled within the framework, of which 54 have onshore and two offshore.
