Pipelaying for the Nord Stream 2 project started in the Gulf of Finland on Wednesday, Russia’s Gazprom said in a note.

The operations are being carried out by the Solitaire pipelaying vessel.

Nord Stream 2 is a 55 billion cubic metre per year project that will transport gas directly from Russia to Germany. It has obtained all the permits required by every country along its route apart from Denmark, but an alternative route has been proposed that would avoid Danish waters.
