Australia’s national science agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), has released a blueprint for an economically sustainable hydrogen industry, according to The Maritime Executive.

The CSIRO suggests hydrogen could be cost-competitive with other industrial feedstocks such as gas by 2025. Producing hydrogen domestically could help Australia reduce its dependence on imported liquid fuel supplies.

Surplus hydrogen could also be exported to countries such as Japan and South Korea, which are developing domestic demand for the fuel.
