Japan has agreed to develop closer economic ties with China targeting infrastructure projects in the region as part of Beijing’s Belt and Road initiative, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.

The agreement comes just days after Japan signed a trilateral agreement with the United States and Australia to establish a fund to invest in infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific region that would compete with the Belt and Road initiative.
