The European Commission has ruled that Greece’s planned market to remunerate flexible electricity generation capacity is in line with EU state aid rules

The European Commission has ruled that Greece’s planned capacity market, which will remunerate providers of flexible electricity generation, is in line with EU state aid rules, it said on Monday.

The Greek scheme will pay storage facilities and the operators of flexible generation – such as gas-fired and hydropower plants – to make capacity available in the future. It will also reward demand-response operators for their readiness to reduce electricity consumption during peak periods.
