Bangladesh’s Barapukuria coal-fired power plant is looking to import coal after being forced to shut down because of a lack of supplies, according to Bangladeshi newspaper The Independent.

The domestic coal mine supplying the plant has run into problems, with output dropping from 3,600 tons per day to 1,500 t/d in recent weeks and down to 400 tons last Saturday, which forced the power plant to shut down.

Blackouts have been avoided by increasing gas supply to the Sirajganj gas-fired power plant.
