The United States will hold an oil and gas lease sale for the Gulf of Mexico on 15 August, the country’s Department of the Interior has announced.

The United States will hold an oil and gas lease sale for the Gulf of Mexico on 15 August, the country’s Department of the Interior has announced.

“The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will offer approximately [31.6 million hectares] offshore Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida for oil and gas exploration and development.”

Nearly 15,000 blocks will be on offer, all of which are located 5-370 km offshore, in the Gulf’s Western, Central and Eastern planning areas, reported Gasoil News.
