Germany does not need Gazprom’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline because the gas demand forecasts underpinning it are unrealistically high, the DIW Berlin research institute said in a study released on Wednesday.

“The plan to build Nord Stream 2 is unnecessary from an energy economic perspective, bad for the environment, and economically unprofitable,” said Claudia Kemfert, one of the study’s authors.
