Chinese State Council releases new pollution reduction plan

China will continue to reduce its coal consumption, boost sales of electric vehicles, and shut more outdated steel and coke capacity over the next three years, the State Council said in a pollution action plan for 2018-2020 released on Tuesday.

The plan covers 82 cities across China, up from 28 cities in the 2013-2017 plan, and adds the major coal-producing provinces of Shanxi and Shaanxi to the list of ‘key’ pollution-control regions.
