Greece has awarded a licence to a consortium of United States-based ExxonMobil, French major Total and local player Hellenic Petroleum to explore two offshore sites, Greek Energy Minister George Stathakis said on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

Greece invited expressions of interest last year in the sites, which lie off the island of Crete, but the consortium was the only bidder. Greece’s parliament must now approve the licences for exploration work to start.
