Algeria has stepped up production from the Alrar gas field near the Libyan border, according to reports citing state-owned Sonatrach.

Output now stands at 24.7 million cubic metres per day (MMcm/d), up from 16 MMcm/d previously.

Sonatrach Chief Executive Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour attended the inauguration of the expansion.

The company is trying to expand production to meet rising domestic demand and facilitate more exports, Kaddour told Interfax Natural Gas Daily last week.
