Argentina’s new energy minister, Javier Iguacel, has pledged to halt government meddling in the country’s fuel prices and let market forces take effect.
“There’ll be no more agreements [on oil prices]. It’s a free market,” Iguacel told Bloomberg. He also confirmed Buenos Aires would eliminate the role of CAMMESA – the market administrator that oversees power contracts – from September.
CAMMESA sets both the price that generators pay for fuel – including gas – and the price at which they sell their power.
