Woodside Petroleum will make a decision soon on whether to continue investing in Sempra Energy’s Port Arthur LNG plant in the United States

Woodside Petroleum will make a decision soon on whether to continue investing in Sempra Energy’s Port Arthur LNG plant in the United States, Chief Executive Peter Coleman said at the World Gas Conference in Washington DC on Wednesday.

The ability of the 11 mtpa project to provide Woodside with an adequate return is “very challenged”, said Coleman, who added the company has been paying part of the plant’s development costs.

Sempra and Woodside signed a development agreement for Port Arthur in February 2016,
