The European Commission’s announcement that it will investigate Qatar Petroleum (QP) over its LNG supply contracts with European customers came only one month after it closed a similar case against Gazprom. 

The timing is no coincidence; after reaching a settlement with Gazprom almost seven years after the investigation started, the commission has freed up resources to take on another gas giant.
