Brussels opens antitrust investigation into Qatar Petroleum

The European Commission has opened a formal investigation into supply agreements between Qatar Petroleum and European LNG importers.

The European Commission has opened a formal investigation to assess whether supply agreements between Qatar Petroleum and European LNG importers have hindered the free flow of gas within the European Economic Area (EEA), it said on Thursday.

The commission said it will further investigate whether Qatar Petroleum’s long-term agreements – typically running for 20 or 25 years – with LNG importers in the EEA contain territorial restrictions, which refers to bans or restrictions on the onward sale of gas.
