ExxonMobil is considering building an LNG terminal in the state of Victoria in southeastern Australia to replace gas from the rapidly declining Bass Strait fields, The Australian reported on Sunday.

“Combined with the existing Gippsland resource and infrastructure, an LNG import facility could ensure ExxonMobil can continue to meet our customers’ needs,” an Exxon representative told the newspaper.

The facility could cost just A$100 million ($74.4 million) as it would take advantage of existing gas infrastructure.
