The twist of Trumpian irony that saw the United States, Mexico and Canada win the right to host the 2026 World Cup this week was, in keeping with the spirit of the age, best summed up by a tweet. 

“So, basically NAFTA is hosting the 2026 World Cup. That’s awkward #Trump #Trudeau #Mexico #BadHombres #BorderWall,” posted one Twitter user, referring to the North American Free Trade Agreement.
