The EU institutions finally reached an agreement on Thursday to scale up their 2030 target for renewables, a move that could help Europe reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels. 

The deal was clinched at around 4.00am (GMT: 2.00am) in Strasbourg, when negotiators from the Council of the EU together with representatives from the European Parliament and the European Commission agreed to increase the current 27% target to 32%.
